50th Simon de Montfort shoot report Wednesday 18 June 2014
2014 represents the 50th time that Malvern Archers and Evesham Archery Club have met to try and win the Simon De Montfort Trophy. The inter club archery match has taken place every year since 1965 and this year it was Malvern’s turn to host the match.
Although a competitive match it really does epitomise the term “friendly” and is a great event for new archers to get a taste for competitive archery in a fun and friendly way. Both teams fielded archers that were shooting in competition for the very first time.
The format of the competition is a Western (96 arrows shot over 2 distances) round with age appropriate distances for junior archers and this year the scoring was made up from the archers scoring the best 8 actual scores and best 8 handicap scores. The results were as follows:
Made (actual) scores: Evesham 5986
Handicap scores: Evesham 11891
Totals: Evesham 17877
The higher total for the combined scores means that Malvern were victorious in the 50th Simon De Montfort Trophy.
Both teams enjoyed a wonderful tea after shooting was finished where we shared a wonderful celebration cake made by Malvern member Alison Relf.
Well done to our new members, Steve Hewitt and Edward Meats who both shot well above their handicaps with 1550 and 1519 respectively.
After 50 matches Evesham lead Malvern with 38 wins to Malvern’s 12… until next year!
Weather conditions were good; warm and cloudy with hardly any wind.
