County Novice title for Steven! Thursday 24 July 2014
Malvern Archers 10th Open Nationals (incorporating the County of Worcester Novice Championship)
On Sunday 20th July, four Evesham Archers, Anthony Welton, Sarah Trout, Steven Hewitt and Andy Ward took part in the Malvern Archers 10th Open Nationals (incorporating the County of Worcester Novice Championship).
Considering the torrential rain and thunderstorms that had been seen the day before, the weather could not have been better for the tournament, with high temperatures and only a light breeze to contend with.
94 archers took to the field and the scene was set.
Welton, shooting a Long National (4doz @ 80yds/2doz @ 60yds) shot a PB with a score of 461 to finish 8th Gents Recurve for the round. Ward, again shooting the Long National also shot a PB, finishing on a score of 556 to finish 8th Gents Compound. Trout, shooting a National Round (4doz @ 60yds/2doz @ 50yds) shot 604 to finish a respectable 2nd in the Ladies Compound.
However, the highlight of the day was a magnificent score of 520 (72 hits/25 Golds) for the National Round (CWAA Novice Championship) shot by Hewitt to finish first and take the Gents Recurve Novice trophy.
Well done to all four archers.
